YURI-NO-KI-DORI
CITY CENTER
HAMAMATSU, JAPAN
The Yuri-No-Ki-Dori, Japan's national road, passes through the city of Hamamatsu. The artist created a pocket park as part of a streetscape project along the Yuri-No-Ki-Dori. Situated next to a parking garage for bicycles are two large granite walls of duplicate dimensions which sit one in front of the other. The rear stone monolithic element is a polished red granite water wall, which contrasts with the simple rough hewn form of the front wall with penetrations that reveal the wall of water behind. A calming effect is created alongside one of Japan's most active streets.
