Place of Origin

VILLAGE OF KEMNAY
ABERDEENSHIRE, SCOTLAND

Within view of Bennachie, the great landmark hill of the Garioch, Place of Origin is a large earth sculpture comprised of 127,500 cubic meters of fill from the neighboring and historic granite quarry of Kemnay, in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. The 20-acre site includes a 300m long by 30m high engineered hill, a community woodland made up of 10,000 newly planted deciduous and evergreen trees and walking paths. This land reclamation project draws upon the rich history of the region and its place within the larger Scottish landscape and is based upon a deep understanding of the significance of archeology, geology, and industrial and social history.
