Healing Stones

CHILDREN'S HOSPITALS AND CLINICS
MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA

Located at a LEED Silver facility, Healing Stones consists of two sculptural compositions at the east and west entrances of the hospital. Each composition is based upon the archetypal egg-shaped form which is symbolic of unrealized potential. The first sculptural egg form is whole where as the second is split into two halves. One half-egg contains a circular solar panel and is placed at the angle to receive energy from the sun, the second half-egg contains a circular glass lighting element of fossilized Aspen leaves layered between color glass and powered by the energy generated by the solar panel. The artwork creates a metaphor related to the hospital, its charter, its people and the care it provides so that all children can realize their full potential. The artist was also responsible for the design of a nearby Healing Garden to be used by patients and families.
