Across the street from the Sacramento Convention Center and two blocks from the State Capitol, Esquire Plaza is located at the intersection of K and 12th in downtown Sacramento. A one time Art Deco Movie Theater became the catalyst for a mixed-use office and entertainment facility which includes an IMAX theater built within the confines of the original movie house. In the spirit of the original Art Deco Theater, the artist chose to develop a series of traditional cement terrazzo floors, common to that era. Polished on the inside and acid-etched on the outside for purposes of slip-resistance, the interior floors and exterior paving creates a seamless and bold sense of threshold to the building. Inspired by looking at the agricultural patterns specific to the Sacramento region as seen from the air, the ground-plane for Esquire Plaza becomes a reflection of that landscape.
