Wanderings

CONGREGATION AGUDAS ACHIM, DELL JEWISH CAMPUS
AUSTIN, TEXAS

A series of linked outdoor rooms evoke the garden of biblical times: a simple grove of trees creating blessed shade, a desert garden of native plants and grass, and a stony path. Each outdoor room conveys meaning and purpose through the narrative use of landscape materials. Spaces are linked through the biblical wandering myth of Miriam's Well, a reoccurring stone which provides life-giving water. Jerusalem Stone carpets lead the congregant to the building, combining visual handcrafted beauty and spiritual depth of meaning derived from the physical act of walking upon the actual holy land when entering the Temple.
