This artwork celebrates the earth's natural resources which, when manipulated through human imagination, result in innovation. Sited within the south atrium, a 50' tall gilded steel cylinder houses an interior space with a granite seat wall from which to view a gilded tree root system and light sculpture. The cylinder and several granite boulders sit within a terrazzo floor based upon an early circuit design. The creative impetus for this project is grounded in the historic roots of the Silicon Valley yet also reflects the meteoric growth of the region due to the ever-evolving world of current technology. The artists' challenge was to create an artwork that would be copasetic with the dynamic architecture of Ricardo Legoretta and that would stand the test of time in the midst of ever-changing technology exhibits.
