Fair Park

FAIR PARK STATION, DALLAS AREA RAPID TRANSIT (DART)
DALLAS, TEXAS

Built for the 1936 Texas Centennial Exposition, Fair Park holds the largest gathering of Art Deco buildings in the world and is notable for its integration of art and architecture. The new DART light rail station sits on the very same footprint of the original streetcar station for Fair Park which was in existence at the time of the Centennial Exposition. Within this context, the station has taken on the thesis of emulating, but not duplicating original elements within Fair Park. A palette of materials, motifs, and lighting strive to emulate the detail and craftsmanship found within the park. The overall intent is to demonstrate again a true intersection of art and architecture through craftsmanship, attention to detail, and a sense of timeless, elegant beauty that is the history of Fair Park.
