Designed by the artist in collaboration with engineers Freese Nichols, Inc., a 1.5 million gallon elevated water storage tank in the Town of Addison, Texas will serve the growing needs of the Town’s water supply. The 45’ high x 85’ diameter steel tank is supported by a 145’ tall concrete pedestal, and topped by twelve ten-kilowatt vertical axis wind turbines. At nearly 200 feet in the air, the ever-present Texas winds will activate the turbines which will be net-metered and grid-tied into the Town's power utility. The energy produced will more than offset the electrical usage of the facility, thus creating a “net-zero energy” project. A monitoring system will be located inside the base of the pedestal for educational and research purposes related to the wind powered turbines.
